Debi Keir Nicholson
Beads of Colour
Debi’s gorgeous beaded beads are changing shape. A recent holiday in romantic Venice greatly influences her new look. The Lombok pearls and the handcrafted Balinese silver are still there, but are now wonderfully spattered with beautiful Venetian glass lampwork beads and are magically woven into interesting and unique beaded sculptures.
Debi explains, “My work is my expression of life. Work is my means to understand, to grow, or most often to just simply enjoy. It is my avenue to those most important elements of colour, texture, learning and inner quiet. Metaphysically colour means life. My interest in it really surfaced as a response to an advisor’s challenge in my first year as an Interior Design student at Ryerson University. It has become a life long love affair. On the other hand, my love of texture has always been. As a child, I loved being outdoors: the rocks, the trees, my bits of coloured glass, and my button tin, as well as hours spent sewing, knitting and cooking. It was always in me. Passion for quiet, well, that came with time. Being from a large family (in a very small house) I remember the very first time I was alone in a secure, private and quiet environment, a space where I could meet me. I was sixteen and it was wonderful. Now, quiet time is the time I spend envisioning and creating. It is my priceless gift to me and the outcome is my product.” These days the outcome is jewellery, mostly beaded. Her vision of stringing together beautiful pieces of glowing light captured by fire and earth feeds and inspires. Hopefully the results will also feed and inspire you. At present, Beads of Colour is a home based retail, gallery and studio space. The little shop is filled with colour, texture, learning and laughter. “It is often far from quiet, but the quiet comes from within just knowing I have a place and space to continually create my visions of fire and earth, sky and water.” 905.628.6886 www.beadsofcolour.com |
